VOLUNTEERS

There are many opportunities for you to share your time, resources, and/or knowledge in the library. We know that your involvement makes a tremendous difference in your own child's life and in the lives of the other McCall children. You do not have to be an expert or a professional to contribute; you just need a heart to serve. Descriptions of the various opportunities are detailed below. If you are interested in volunteering, click on the LIBRARY VOLUNTEER FORM link below and provide your contact information. THANK YOU in advance for your help! Remember, in order to volunteer in any capacity within the school, you must complete a background check. Please check with the office for more information.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

CLERICAL (Shelving, Book Check-In, etc.)

  • I am looking for individuals who can contribute time to help me keep up with the basic clerical aspects of the library. Volunteers will be asked to help shelve books, check books in and out, collect data about library usage, organize supplies, etc. Admittedly, this is not the most glamorous job, but, of all the volunteer opportunities, it is this behind-the-scenes work that allows me to spend the majority of my efforts teaching/connecting with students and collaborating with teachers. Whether you can volunteer for 30 minutes once a month or an hour every week, I will gladly take the help! Click the LIBRARY VOLUNTEER FORM link above to sign up.

PROMOTIONAL (Bulletin Boards, Display Cases, etc.)

  • Are you artistically gifted? Are you good at marketing materials? Do you enjoy creating bulletin boards or displays? I would love to have you partner with me to create beautiful, thought-provoking displays to promote literature, celebrate authors, advertise events, showcase student work, etc. Displays will likely change monthly, so you can help out just once or throughout the year. Click the LIBRARY VOLUNTEER FORM link above to sign up to help.

RESOURCES (Supplies, Connections, etc.)
  • Are you a children's author or storyteller? Do you have connections with an author or storyteller, local or otherwise? Students are impacted greatly by meeting people who have found success with literature in the real world. If you could help us connect with such individuals, that would be fabulous! Click the LIBRARY VOLUNTEER FORM link above to help us connect.

  • The McCall Library is much more than a space to develop a love of books and reading. In addition to a strong literacy focus, the McCall Library is focused on providing regular opportunities for students to strengthen their understanding of STEAM concepts (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). McCall students use the library Makerspace to explore and create, developing the collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills that are vital for success in the 21st Century. The Makerspace is in constant need of art and craft supplies as well as anything that can be used by students to build or create. Are you connected with businesses or individuals who can provide us with items like cardboard, beads, paint, magnets, craft sticks, etc.? Click the LIBRARY VOLUNTEER FORM link above to help us supply our Makerspace.

EXPERTISE (Special Skills, Specialized Knowledge, Reading Buddies, etc.)
  • Do you have some type of specialized knowledge or skill? Are you good at coding, crocheting, performing magic tricks, drawing, building, playing an instrument, telling stories, creating simple machines, sculpting, or some other creative task? Do you have time to simply sit with a child and let him/her read with you? There is a place for you to team with students in our library! Click the LIBRARY VOLUNTEER FORM link above to sign up to help.

SPECIAL EVENTS (Book Fairs, Reading Day, etc.)
  • This year we will have a BOOK FAIR in the fall and the spring as well as a READING DAY. These events are made possible in large part by a team of parents and community members who contribute their time and abilities. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please click the LIBRARY VOLUNTEER FORM link above and provide your contact information.

AT-HOME CLASSROOM HELP (Cutting, Gluing, Assembling, etc.)
  • Are you a working parent with little time to spend up at the school? There's still a place for you to help! Teachers always have items that need to be cut out, glued, or assembled for the students. Many of these projects can be sent home for you to complete, and you can simply return them with your child the next day. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please click the LIBRARY VOLUNTEER FORM link above and provide your contact information.
